This year's Invitation Art Prize shortlist has been revealed, spotlighting ten of Western Australia's best visual artists.
Shortlisted artists: David Attwood, Amanda Bell, David Brazier, Christophe Canato, Jacky Cheng, Brett Leigh Dicks, Louise Malarvie, Amy Perejuan-Capone, Ash Tower, and Ben Ward.
The Invitation Art Prize is a popular and significant event in the City of Joondalup's cultural calendar. This year's program received 91 entries, reviewed by an independent selection panel including: Mayma Awaida, arts manager and artist based in Perth; Myles Russell-Cook, Artistic Director and CEO of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art; and Mark Stewart, Senior Curator and Manager of Murdoch University Art Collection.
The panelists noted the selected artists "stood out for their strong conceptual foundations paired with high levels of technical skill, material confidence, and clear artistic intent."
This year's cohort is particularly unique, with three First Nations artists represented and a notable geographic spread across WA — from Kununurra and Broome in the north to Bunbury in the south — reflecting the breadth and diversity of visual arts practice in our state.
Together, the artists bring a wide range of practices and perspectives, working across painting, paper and fibre, photography, sculpture, and installation.
Artists are in the running to win the $25,000 Acquisitive Prize and be acquired into the City's prestigious art collection.
The Invitation Art Prize will be displayed at Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery from Thursday 29 October – Saturday 12 December 2026.
