The City is excited to announce the 10 shortlisted artists for the 2025 Invitation Art Prize.
Shortlisted artists: Tom Blake, Sam Bloor, Bruno Booth, Erin Coates, Sarah Elson, Tim Meakins, Sherry Quiambao, Andy Quilty, Anna Louise Richardson, and Tyrown Waigana.
The Invitation Art Prize is a popular and significant event in the City of Joondalup’s cultural calendar and a celebration of WA’s professional visual arts community. In 2025, the program increases its support for artists, providing an artist fee to create a larger body of work, a longer production time, and gallery standards for the presentation of the final work.
The new program attracted a competitive pool of 142 entries, which were reviewed by an independent selection panel including: Abdul Abdullah, Australian multi-disciplinary artist; Carly Lane, Curator Indigenous Art, Art Gallery of Western Australia; and Katherine Wilkinson, Program Director, Fremantle Biennale.
The panelists noted the selected artists ‘demonstrated a consistent and considered practice with established bodies of work. Their applications provided evidence of experienced exhibition making and stood out for their technical proficiency, strong sense of practice and focused conceptual backings.’
Collectively, the shortlisted artists span a broad cross section of practices from drawing, painting, and print, sculpture and installation, metalsmithing and jewellery, illustration and animation, and photography, video and film.
Artists are in the running to win the $25,000 Acquisitive Prize and be acquired into the City’s prestigious art collection. The winner will be announced at the Award Ceremony on Saturday 11 October, 6pm.
Running for its 27th year, the Invitation Art Prize will be displayed in the City’s first gallery, Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery, from Thursday 16 October – Saturday 13 December 2025. Read more about the exhibition.
