At a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday 18 February 2025, the City of Joondalup awarded the contract for Domestic, Recycling and Green waste collection services to Solo Resource Recovery. The contract will run for five years, starting from Tuesday 1 July 2025.
Solo Resource Recovery is one of the largest privately owned waste services organisations in Australia, with over 700 employees nationwide. They provide domestic waste collection for 37 councils across WA, SA, VIC, NSW, and QLD.
Solo has been operating in Western Australia since 2013 and currently provides similar waste collection services to the Town of Cottesloe and the City of Wanneroo.
What does this mean for you?
The impact on residents will be minimal. Please continue to place your bins out before 6am, and keep them out until 6pm on your designated collection day (or until your bin has been collected). Collection times may vary from the previous contractor, so there’s no need to worry if your bins are collected earlier or later than usual. If you believe your service has been missed, you can report it after 6pm on your collection day via the City’s website at my.joondalup.wa.gov.au or by calling 9400 4000.
Additionally, the waste collection vehicle will change and will now display Solo signage.
Is there any change to what I place in the bin?
Please continue to dispose of waste correctly in the designated bins and place them on the verge/kerb as usual. Please refer to the A-Z guide if you are unsure of what goes in what bin.
