Joondalup Innovation Challenge

Joondalup Innovation Challenge is a program co-created by the City of Joondalup and the Frank Team in collaboration with key partners Study Perth, University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University and North Metro TAFE.

Up to 200 international and local students participate in this fast-paced employability learning journey that helps participants to establish both their local and international networks.

The challenge is held annually over a 2-week period and sees international and local students form inter-university teams create a simulated start-up that identifies and addresses real-life problems facing residents and businesses in the City of Joondalup. The student teams are supported by professional industry mentors.

The Joondalup Innovation Challenge continues to grow, and in 2022 included students from a number of international and Australian educational institutions, including its first India based students from Amity University, WeSchool Mumbai and Pandit Deendayal Energy University.

Students work and ideate virtually, learning and applying the latest technology tools. The program enables students to build employability skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving and creative thinking skills. Students gain valuable ‘real-world’ experience and have an opportunity to build their business connections through networking opportunities and exposure to the WA start-up and entrepreneurship eco-system including incubators and co-working spaces.

The Joondalup Innovation Challenge will run again in September 2023. If you would like to register your interest for the 2023 Challenge email business@joondalup.wa.gov.au
