Elected Member Training and Development

Both the WA State Parliament and the City of Joondalup recognise the need for elected members (being the City’s Mayor and Councillors) to undertake continual professional development in fulfilling their role of public office. It is imperative that elected members have appropriate skills to perform their role as local government is complex and makes significant decisions that affect the organisation’s sustainability and overall community outcomes.

The Local Government Act 1995 requires Western Australian local governments to prepare a report for each financial year on the training completed by elected members in that financial year and to publish the report on the local government’s website.

The reports detailed below highlight the mandatory training that is required to be undertaken  by elected members under the Local Government Act 1995 as well as any training and development provided under the City’s Elected Members’ Entitlements Policy.
