Arts and culture investment

Here at the City of Joondalup, arts and culture play a significant role in connecting our communities, promoting a sense of belonging, and creating a vibrant place to live. From public art that defines our neighbourhoods to festivals that bring us together, our cultural programs and spaces are designed to reflect who we are as a community and inspire creativity across all ages.

Cultural Plan

We're committed to delivering arts and cultural activities that reflect Joondalup's vision of being 'A Global City: Bold, Creative, and Prosperous'.

Our Cultural Plan was developed through community consultation and provides strategic direction for all arts and cultural events and activities, as well as the City's aspirations for growing the creative economy.

To ensure our investment continues to support the programming and infrastructure the community values most, we'll be reviewing the Cultural Plan from 2026.

Public Art Masterplan

We know that public art plays an important role in creating a sense of place and shaping community identity. The City of Joondalup's inaugural Public Art Masterplan is a 10-year strategic plan that sets out a clear vision for public art across the city.

The Masterplan provides a roadmap that helps the City decide:

  • What kind of art our community actually wants and needs
  • Where new sculptures, murals, and installations should go
  • How to make sure public art reflects who we are as a community

Whether it's activating public spaces, celebrating local culture, or creating landmarks that give neighbourhoods their unique character, our Public Arts Masterplan ensures public art is meaningful to our community and serves a purpose beyond aesthetics.

A song for Joondalup

Paying homage to our unique and incredibly special part of the world, Joondalup Festival 2025 saw the commissioning of a special project to create a song for our community and future generations to enjoy.

The project, called Joondalup Warangka (Joondalup Song), brought together the talents of the West Australian Opera, celebrated singer-songwriters Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, and acclaimed producer Boox Kid, with inspiration drawn from the stories and experiences of local residents. The end result was a mesmerizing blend of Noongar language and contemporary music that pays homage to the significance of Lake Joondalup in Noongar culture and history.

We have made Lake Joondalup - The Lake that Glistens free to download. We've also provided the lyrics and musical score so that this beautiful song can be learned and played throughout the community for years to come.
