Make a beautiful set of earrings using a traditional technique.

Under the guidance of the talented Emma-Jane, you’ll learn the ancient Aboriginal art of basket weaving and use it to create a contemporary pair of wearable artworks.

Important information

  • This workshop is suitable for ages 15 and up.
  • No food is provided at this workshop but you’re welcome to bring along some snacks to eat while you weave.
  • Joondalup Contemporary Art Gallery is a new venue at the Joondalup Civic Centre, located at 90 Boas Ave, Joondalup. You can find it between the Joondalup Council Chambers and the Administration Building.
  • The workshop will be held in the little workshops space just behind the gallery. From the gallery entrance, just follow the signs through the undercroft to find it.
  • Free parking is available at the Civic Centre, including ACROD bays. 
  • The venue is wheelchair accessible.

About Emma-Jane’s Weaving

Emma-Jane Hunt is a Yjindibarndi and Djaru woman with both traditional and ancestral links to both the Pilbara and Kimberly regions of Western Australia. 

Taught to weave by Martu Weavers from the Western Desert when living in the East Pilbara, Emma-Jane is passionate about keeping weaving as a cultural practice alive.
