Works are commencing soon on highly-anticipated upgrades to the Burns Beach foreshore, enhancing the amenity, accessibility, and recreation opportunities at one of the City’s most beloved coastal destinations.
The transformative project will deliver a vibrant adventure playground, new barbecues, picnic areas and a large gathering spot.
More than 100 additional parking bays will also be added, including a new overflow parking area near the intersection of Ocean Parade and Burns Beach Road.
At the heart of the revitalisation will be a two-storey café/restaurant, designed to maximise ocean views. The upper level will boast an open balcony where visitors can take in panoramic vistas, while the lower level will provide a sheltered alfresco space alongside a takeaway window.
A commercial operator will be chosen through a competitive tender process to complete the building’s interior fit-out and bring the venue to life.
City of Joondalup Deputy Mayor Cr Adrian Hill said the exciting upgrade is the result of more than a decade of planning and community consultation.
“Feedback from local residents and the wider community has helped improve the design of this project, which aims to protect what makes Burns Beach foreshore special, while offering new experiences,” Cr Hill said.
“As one of only eight Regional Parks in the City, Burns Beach Park is a key attraction for both locals and visitors, and the Burns Beach Master Plan identified the foreshore as a potential location for a café/restaurant.
“Whether you’re cycling the coast, wandering the twilight markets or watching the sunset, this project brings more for you.
“You can still go to the park and the beach, and there will be a new space that joins the two, offering new ways to enjoy Burns Beach foreshore.
“You can still grab your morning coffee, and you will be able to have a glass of wine over lunch, or dinner with friends while watching the sunset.
“You can still get there by bike, car or bus, and it will be even safer and easier with improved access and more parking bays.
Works will begin in winter 2025 on the overflow car park, in preparation for the upgrade of the park and surrounds. The project is expected to be completed by mid to late-2027.
