The City of Joondalup has honoured and recognised the remarkable achievements of five exceptional individuals by inducting them into its prestigious Walk of Fame.

Gail Wright (née Dorrington), Rosco McGlashan OAM, Patrick O’Brien OAM, Professor Maryam Omari and Sally Pilbeam join an illustrious group of high achievers whose names are immortalised along Central Walk in the Joondalup CBD.

Opened in 2021, the Walk of Fame is located in the heart of Joondalup City Centre and was created to publicly recognise members of the Joondalup community who have achieved success at an elite level in the fields of sport, education, business and community service and leadership.

Each inductee is commemorated with a specially designed paver, creating a permanent record of achievement in a prominent public space.

The program has three key objectives:

  • Celebrate significant achievements of local community members.
  • Provide inspiration and role models for local residents.
  • Create a valuable record of social history, reflecting Joondalup’s proud tradition of excellence.

To be eligible, nominees must have strong ties to the City, having resided or attended school within Joondalup for more than five years and demonstrated outstanding success in their chosen field.

The Walk of Fame continues to grow thanks to the vision of Cr Russ Fishwick, who championed the idea to honour community champions in a lasting and meaningful way.

Nominations are called every two years through a public process, and awards may be granted posthumously.

Since its inception, the Walk of Fame has honoured some outstanding individuals, including Justin Langer (cricket), Mike Hussey (cricket), David Hussey (cricket), Greg Hire (Basketball), Brian Bratich (karate), Jessica Bratich Johnson (karate), Daniel Ricciardo (Formula 1), Matt Priddis (football), Casey Dellacqua (tennis), Shaun Tan (artist and author), Michael Malone (iiNet founder), Salvatore ‘Sam’ Castiglione (weightlifting), Dr Rishelle Hume (Aboriginal leadership) and Sharon Wood-Kenney (cultural leadership).

Joondalup Mayor Daniel Kingston said the Walk of Fame reflects the City’s proud tradition of inspiring excellence.

“Joondalup has always been a place where people dream big and achieve great things,” Mayor Kingston said.

“Each inductee has made an extraordinary impact in their field, and we are proud to celebrate their legacy in the heart of our City.

“They remind us that greatness can come from anywhere, and that Joondalup is a community where talent is nurtured and celebrated.

“Our Walk of Fame is more than a tribute, it’s a source of inspiration for generations to come and preserves Joondalup’s unique social history.”
