The City of Joondalup is calling for nominations for the 2024 installation of its prestigious Walk of Fame.
Located in Central Walk, Joondalup, the Walk of Fame was officially opened in 2021 with 11 inductees to the inaugural 2020 list.
Specially designed pavers of inductees are located at the Boas Avenue end of the throughfare and will eventually extend through to Reid Promenade.
The Walk of Fame publicly recognises members of the Joondalup community who have made significant contribution to the City and its people in the categories of sport, business and community.
Among the selection criteria, recipients must have resided in the City for over five years and/or attended a school within the City for more than five years.
The 2020 Walk of Fame inductees were Justin Langer (cricket), Daniel Ricciardo (formula auto racing), Greg Hire (basketball), Matt Priddis (football), Casey Dellacqua (tennis), Jessica Bratich Johnson (karate), Brian Bratich (karate), Shaun Tan (artist illustrator, comic books and film), Michael Malone (iiNet), Mike Hussey (cricket) and David Hussey (cricket).
Three members were inducted in the 2022 Walk of Fame - Salvatore ‘Sam’ Castiglione (weightlifting), Dr Rishelle Hume (Aboriginal leadership) and Sharon Wood-Kenney (cultural leadership).
Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the City has long been home to many high-achieving members of the community who have made significant impacts at a local, national and international level.
“The Walk of Fame was the brainchild of Cr Russ Fishwick, who was very passionate about honouring those in our community who have excelled in their chosen field,” Mayor Jacob said.
“The Walk of Fame not only aims to celebrate the achievements of these valued community members, but also provide inspiration and role models for local residents.
“It also helps us to create a valuable record of social history despite our relative youth as a City.”
Nominations open from Friday 21 March and close Friday 16 May. A selection panel endorsed by the Joondalup Council will then assess nominations before selecting nominees to be inducted.
More information about the Walk of Fame, nomination guidelines and previous inductees can be found on the Walk of Fame webpage, or by emailing business@joondalup.wa.gov.au or calling 9400 4000.
