Library services

Library services include:

Books on Wheels is a free delivery service for City of Joondalup residents who are unable to visit a Library. An agreed number of preselected items including books, audiobooks and DVDs will be delivered fortnightly to your home or care facility.

Eligibility guidelines

The following are requirements for eligibility to access Books on Wheels:

  1. Must live in the City of Joondalup
  2. Not be able to visit a library due to
    • Frailty, disability or illness
    • Compromised mobility
    • Being in long recuperation
    • Residing in aged care or nursing home.
  3. Can visit a library but facing difficulties with Library navigation or carrying Library items.

Your unwanted books can be donated to the libraries provided they are less than 12 months old and in good condition.

Books accepted:

  • adult fiction
  • children’s fiction and picture books
  • young adult fiction
  • adult non-fiction.

If the item is of a local or historical significance, it may be considered for inclusion in the Local History collection.

How to donate

To donate, contact your local library to arrange a time with staff. Donations are not accepted outside of opening hours.

Free computer and Wi-Fi  

Public computers have the following features for members and non-members: 

  • Internet access in metered time slots  
  • Word processing 
  • Spreadsheets 
  • Office presentations 
  • Print facilities - charges apply 
  • Save documents to USB.

Scan and photocopy

Each Library has a coin operated colour, A3 photocopier. Charges apply.

Use the photocopier to scan documents to your email address or your USB storage device for free.

A volunteer Justice of the Peace (JP) is available to witness and certify documents and wills.  

  • Joondalup Library, Thursday 5pm - 6.30pm 
  • Joondalup Library, Saturday 10am - 12.30pm
  • Woodvale Library, Saturday 9.30am - 11.30am.

No bookings are required. 

Important note: there may be occasions when the volunteer JPs are unavailable. Call staff to confirm sessions before visiting. 

  • Certified copies – bring the original documents and copies. Photocopiers available. 
  • Witnesses – bring someone with you as a second witness (if required).

Meeting rooms are available at Joondalup and Whitford Libraries for individual or commercial hire. There are dedicated Library meeting rooms available for hire during library open times.

Parking 

Parking at Joondalup Library has time limits in place. Dedicated one-hour parking in front of the Library and two-hour time limits in the Library under croft.  

Parking is available adjacent to Whitford Library.

Technology 

All rooms have an overhead data projector included in your hire. HDMI and VGA connection available. Libraries have free Wi-Fi, but it is recommended you rely on your own data source.

User Rate per hour
Category A: an organisation, group or individual hiring a venue as part of a business, for business purposes, and/or for financial benefit.  $28.40
Category B: a charity, an incorporated association or a community group, government department / agency or educational provider with an annual gross revenue of less than $10 million and more than $3 million, occupying the premises for non-commercial purposes.  $5.70
Category C: a charity, an incorporated association or a community group with annual revenue of less than $3 million, or an individual hiring a venue for non-commercial purposes.  $1.40

  • The Guardian.

The Guardian Weekly and International Express UK are held at Joondalup Library only.

Archives

The Local History collection includes over 80,000 newspaper articles clipped from local papers since 1981. In addition, old issues of community newspapers have been transferred to microfilm and searchable PDF. Please ask Local History staff for assistance.

With a collection of over 5,000 carefully curated titles located in the Joondalup Library, the Reference collection specialises in titles to support upper and tertiary education and includes an extensive Western Australian collection.

Book a time to sit with one of our Keystrokes volunteers in a one-to-one session to learn how to use your laptop, tablet or mobile phone.

  • Stories, songs and hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) activities that encourage children to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, imagination and creativity.

  • These sessions are aimed at children who prefer to experience story time in a quiet small group setting. Enjoy stories, songs and activities that promote literacy followed by sensory playtime. No cost. No bookings required.
