NAIDOC Week is nearly here, and this year marks a truly special milestone—50 years of honouring and uplifting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, stories, and culture across Australia.
Here at the City of Joondalup we are thrilled to invite everyone—families, friends, neighbours, and visitors—to join us in celebrating National NAIDOC Week from Sunday 6 July to Sunday 13 July.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for people of every age and background to come together, learn, share, and celebrate the oldest continuous living cultures on earth. By joining in, you help build a community where respect, understanding, and unity thrive.
From bush walks to weaving, Noongar language lessons and school holiday activities, including a Yirra Yaakin theatre performance—there's truly something for everyone to enjoy in this year's program of NAIDOC Week events. We couldn't fit them all into just one week, so you can expect the fun to continue throughout July!
This year our NAIDOC campaign features a vivid design in vibrant bright shades of purple, blue, yellow and red. This beautiful artwork was created by Latasha Williams and Layla Sabol, a talented mother daughter duo. Latasha Williams is a proud Murri woman from Queensland. Her daughter, Layla, was born in Victoria. Now living in Ellenbrook, they call WA home.
Latasha and Layla created the artwork as a family project. The three circular ‘meeting place’ motifs represent the different places they’ve come from, while the winding blue section represents a river.
“As a family, we often go to the rivers and oceans to get grounded and feel connected to our land and our Elders, past and present”.
- Latasha Williams
Thank you so much Latasha and Layla for allowing us to feature your meaning-filled design to help us promote and celebrate NAIDOC Week 2025. What an awesome representation of this year’s NAIDOC theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
