International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day (IVD), mandated by the UN General Assembly, is held each year on 5 December. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector. With over 600,000 volunteers in Western Australia, IVD is a day for mass celebration. Volunteer Involving Organisations celebrate the contributions of thousands of volunteers who support their programs and services to the community. Various events are held around Western Australia including thank you breakfasts, BBQs, afternoon teas, volunteering expos and much more!
The Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre will host a stall at the Twilight Markets on Friday 6 December 2019 to promote the volunteering message and encourage community members to consider taking up a cause of their own.
National Volunteer Week 2019
National Volunteer Week is the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week 2019 is “Making a world of difference”. From 20–26 May 2019, thousands of events will be held across the country to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time. The week-long celebration will include breakfasts, morning/afternoon teas, and luncheons, as well as open days, award ceremonies, picnics, forums and training sessions.
For 2019 the City of Joondalup, in partnership with Volunteering WA and Lotterywest will be hosting a very special National Volunteer Week celebration – A World of Change: An Exhibition of Volunteer Stories – at the Joondalup Library from 20 – 26 May 2019. All are welcome to this special volunteer recognition exhibition, which will be a celebration of volunteer stories and the positive impact that volunteering has on the community! This fantastic exhibition is supported by project partners Inclusion Solutions, Wanneroo and Joondalup SES, Befriend Inc. and Super Tuesdays at True North Church.
Volunteers are the backbone of the community and often unsung heroes. Please join in recognising those who give so much for so little throughout Joondalup.
International Volunteer Managers Day
International Volunteer Managers Day, held every year on 5 November, is a time to thank the many amazing volunteer managers out there, and recognise them for their tireless efforts in coordinating and supporting the thousands of dedicated volunteers throughout the City.
Please check back closer to the date for more information.
