Volunteer events and observances

Throughout the year there are many volunteering celebrations and observances hosted by the Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre and the City. Annual celebrations include International Volunteer Managers Day (5 November), International Volunteer Day (5 December) and National Volunteer Week (20-26 May).

Previous observances have included sundowner events, breakfast forums, volunteer story promotional campaigns and Volunteer Involving Organisation promotional exhibitions.

Contact the Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre for further information on upcoming celebrations.

National Volunteer Week 2019

National Volunteer Week is the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week 2019 is “Making a world of difference”. From 20–26 May 2019, thousands of events will be held across the country to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time. The week-long celebration will include breakfasts, morning/afternoon teas, and luncheons, as well as open days, award ceremonies, picnics, forums and training sessions.

For 2019 the City of Joondalup, in partnership with Volunteering WA and Lotterywest will be hosting a very special National Volunteer Week celebration – A World of Change: An Exhibition of Volunteer Stories – in the Joondalup Library from 20 – 26 May 2019. All are welcome to this special volunteer recognition exhibition, which will be a celebration of volunteer stories and the positive impact that volunteering has on the community! This fantastic exhibition is supported by project partners Inclusion Solutions, Wanneroo and Joondalup SES, Befriend Inc. and Super Tuesdays at True North Church.

Volunteers are the backbone of the community and often unsung heroes. Please join us in recognising those who give so much for so little throughout Joondalup.

International Volunteer Managers Day, held every year on 5 November, is a time to thank the many amazing volunteer managers out there, and recognise them for their tireless efforts in coordinating and supporting the thousands of dedicated volunteers throughout the City.
