Volunteer events and observances

Throughout the year there are many volunteering celebrations and observances hosted by the Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre and the City. Previous observances have included sundowner events, breakfast forums, volunteer story promotional campaigns and Volunteer Involving Organisation promotional exhibitions.

Visit Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre for further information on upcoming celebrations.

Thank a Volunteer Day

In 1985, the United Nations designated 5 December each year as International Volunteer Day, also known as Thank a Volunteer Day in Western Australia. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values and to promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organisation (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.

This challenging year has shone a spotlight on the power of volunteers in Australia and around the world. Over the last months, as the COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged across the world, volunteers have been at the forefront of medical, community and societal responses.

The City would like to thank all the dedicated volunteers and Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre for their continued service, support and partnership to volunteering within the City of Joondalup.

‘Together We Can Through Volunteering’ is the theme for 2020 and is more relevant than ever before. During uncertain times, it is important to recognise and acknowledge the valued volunteers that support our community.

National Volunteer Week 2020

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of more than six million Australians who volunteer their time.

Volunteering brings communities together. The City would like to thank all the dedicated volunteers who service the Joondalup community. Thank you to Joondalup Volunteer Resource Centre for its partnership and service to volunteering within the City of Joondalup. During this uncertain time, it is more important than ever to recognise and acknowledge the valued volunteers that support others in hardship.
